We, the undersigned, petition the Federal Government of Australia to provide funding to Limbs 4 Life to ensure it can continue to provide support to amputees, care givers and health professionals throughout Australia. With the incidence of limb loss increasing, and over 250,000 amputees in the Australian community already, the services of Limbs 4 Life are needed now more than ever.
1. Limbs 4 Life’s programs and services provide support to tens of thousands of amputees and care givers each year, alleviating pressure on the public health care system, yet none of its work is government funded.
2. Limbs 4 Life’s programs and services encourage faster recovery times, alleviate amputation related depression, support faster return to work times and enhance the social inclusion of patients; generating social and healthcare savings for government.
3. Limbs 4 Life plays a significant role in achieving benchmarks and outcomes which form part of the Council of Australian Governments’ ‘National Disability Agreement’ by placing people with a disability, their families and carers at the centre of all organisational programs and services.
4. Limbs 4 Life is an innovative charity that combines face-to-face, print and web-based services and resources to best meet the needs of a diverse community of amputees and care givers across Australia.
